Pre-S2 (1-26) is a peptide composed of 26 amino acids, forming the N-terminal portion of a 55-amino-acid polypeptide encoded by the pre-S2 region of hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA. Pre-S2 (1-26) serves as an immunodominant epitope, and its immunogenicity can be enhanced by conjugating it with liposomes. The antibodies induced by this antigenic determinant can recognize a common envelope epitope shared by HBV and HBsAg. Since these antibodies exhibit virus-neutralizing activity in vivo, Pre-S (120-145) holds potential as a synthetic vaccine against HBV infection.
