Anrukinzumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody designed to specifically neutralize interleukin-13 (IL-13), a key cytokine involved in type 2 inflammation. It was developed as a potential therapeutic for asthma and other allergic diseases. The antibody functions by binding to IL-13 with high affinity, preventing it from interacting with its receptor complex (IL-4Rα/IL-13Rα1). This blockade aims to inhibit the downstream inflammatory pathways that contribute to airway hyperresponsiveness, mucus hypersecretion, and tissue remodeling in asthma.
