Atidortoxumab is a fully human monoclonal antibody of the IgG1\kappa isotype. It is an antitoxin therapeutic agent designed to neutralize the toxins produced by Staphylococcus aureus, a common and highly dangerous bacterium responsible for severe infections, particularly pneumonia. Atidortoxumab is often developed as one component of a combination antitoxin therapy (e.g., as ASN-1 in the combination ASN100, which includes two antibodies: ASN-1 and ASN-2). Its mechanism is to bind to and neutralize the primary toxins, thereby protecting host cells, preventing mucosal barrier damage, and limiting the innate immune system evasion mechanisms utilized by the bacteria. It has been investigated for the treatment and prevention of severe S. aureus pneumonia.
