常压蒸馏时分解。稍溶于水，极易溶于乙醇和乙醚，易溶于苛性碱和碱金属的碳酸盐溶液中呈现黄色，不能与蒸汽一同挥发，不溶于石油醚。中等毒，半数致死量(大鼠，经口)447mg/kg。有刺激性。Usually used in the preparation of 3-aminophenol,and also employed as a weak acid in capillary isoelectric focusing (cIEF) method.
