Bersanlimab (also known as BI-505) is a fully human monoclonal antibody of the IgG1 isotype. It is designed as an antineoplastic agent that targets the Intercellular Adhesion Molecule 1 (ICAM-1 or CD54). Its primary mechanism of action is the direct induction of programmed cell death (apoptosis) in tumor cells that express ICAM-1. The antibody binding is thought to trigger specific signaling pathways within the malignant cell, leading to caspase activation and cell death, independent of complement or host effector cells. It has been primarily investigated for the treatment of hematological malignancies, such as multiple myeloma and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, where ICAM-1 is often overexpressed.
