Ralpancizumab is a humanized IgG2 kappa monoclonal antibody that specifically targets proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9). By binding to circulating PCSK9, it prevents PCSK9 from interacting with and degrading the low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) on liver cells. This mechanism increases the number of LDLRs available to clear LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream, thereby significantly lowering circulating LDL-C levels. It is developed for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and the prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
