C16G2 is a specific antimicrobial peptide (STAMP), a 35-amino acid polypeptide that targets the cariogenic oral pathogen *Streptococcus mutans*. By specifically recognizing and disrupting bacterial cell membranes, C16G2 causes small molecule leakage and loss of membrane potential, thereby killing the bacteria. Unlike broad-spectrum antimicrobial peptides, C16G2 exhibits higher selectivity and efficacy against *Streptococcus mutans*.
