Leucokinin VIII is a polypeptide within the leucokinins, containing an 8-amino acid sequence, and functions as a diuretic octapeptide extracted from head extracts of cockroaches. It enhances the secretion rates of NaCl, KCl, and water across epithelia by increasing epithelial shunt Cl conductance through basolateral receptors. Additionally, Leucokinin VIII activates Ca2+-dependent signaling pathways in the principal cells of the Malpighian tubules of Aedes aegypti.
