Elcatonin is a peptide with a stable secondary structure, consisting of 31 amino acids and a cyclic structure formed by lipid bonds in its sequence. The main physiological function of Elcatonin based drugs is to inhibit osteoclast activity, reduce bone resorption, prevent bone calcium loss, and lower serum calcium levels in normal and hypercalcemic animals. It also improves bone strength, cortical thickness, calcium content, and bone density in experimental osteoporosis.
