Uses of Ceftriaxone sodium

Ceftriaxone sodium is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with high activity against many Gram-negative bacteria and some activity against most Gram-positive bacteria. It has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It is used for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections.

Side effects

Common side effects include: Hardness after intramuscular injection (5-17%), swelling, redness, or pain may occur at the injection site. Other adverse reactions that may occur are: allergic reactions - rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat; gallbladder problems - severe stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and fever; kidney injury - -reduced urine output, swelling of ankles, hands or feet; Kidney stones - blood in the urine, painful or difficult urination, pain in the lower back or sides; Low red blood cell count - unusual weakness or fatigue, dizziness, headache, difficulty breathing; Pancreatitis - severe stomach pain that spreads to the back or gets worse after eating or touching, fever, nausea, vomiting; severe diarrhoea, fever, unusual weakness or fatigue.

 Drug's Interaction

It is not recommended to use this medication with any of the following: birth control pills and calcium-containing intravenous fluids (e.g. calcium acetate, calcium chloride, calcium glutamate, calcium gluconate, Ringer's Lactate, Ringer's Solution).
