9 EXAMPLE 9
EXAMPLE 9 A 300-ml four-necked flask equipped with a thermometer, a condenser and a stirrer was charged with 130 g of dimethylformamide, 31.8 g (0.2 mole) of sodium p-aminobenzoate, and 11.3 g (0.1 mole) of 1,3-dichloropropane, which were then reacted at 120° C. for 3 hours while heating and stirring. After the reaction was completed, the dimethylformamide was distilled away under reduced pressure from the reaction mixture, and thereafter, the residue was poured into 300 ml of water with stirring to precipitate crystals. These crystals were collected by filtration, washed with water, and dried to obtain 29.9 g of 1,3-propanediol bis(p-aminobenzoate), pale yellow crystals having a melting point of 120°-125° C. (yield: 95%).
