General procedure for the synthesis of 2,3-difluoro-4-nitrophenol from 2,3-difluorophenol: Step a: Nitration reaction To a solution of 2,3-difluorophenol (52.0 g, 400.0 mmol) in dichloromethane (DCM, 500.0 mL) was slowly added 70% nitric acid (HNO3, 28.0 mL, 400.0 mmol) dropwise at 0 °C. The reaction mixture was gradually warmed to room temperature and stirring was continued at 0 °C for 30 min. Upon completion of the reaction, the precipitate was collected by filtration, washed with deionized water and subsequently dried under vacuum to afford 20 g of the target product 2,3-difluoro-4-nitrophenol (white solid) in 29% yield.
