Hafnium iodide can be used to prepare hafnium using the iodination refining process. The principle of the iodination refining process is that in a vacuum-sealed container, iodine reacts with the metal to be purified at a lower temperature to generate volatile iodides. These iodides diffuse onto a hot masterbatch at a higher temperature, dissociating into metal and iodine. The metal deposits on the incandescent masterbatch, causing it to grow, while the iodine returns to the raw material area to continue reacting with the raw metal. Iodine acts as a "transporter," and the process is repeated. |
