Ethyl glycollate is an important building block for the preparation of medicinal compounds and agrochemicals. It may be used:- as starting reagent in the synthesis of 2-ferrocenylfuran;
- as substrate during the polycondensation of α-hydroxy acids by enzymes and polyethylene glycol (PEG)-modified enzymes;
- in the synthesis of poly(PDL-GA) copolymers, via enzymatic catalysis.
