Synthese

N-methylbiphenyl-2-amine synthesis: To a stirred solution of biphenyl-2-amine (0.029 mol) in 2-propanol (125 mL) a solution 37% of formaldehyde in water (0.059 mol) was added and the solution was stirred for 1 h. In another flask, to a suspension of palladium on activated charcoal (0.003 mol) in 2-propanol (125 mL), a solution of ammonium formate (0.29 mol) in water (50 mL) was added. The two solutions were combined and the new suspension was stirred overnight at r.t. and then refluxed for 1 h. After cooling, the suspension was filtered over a Celite pad and the solvent was evaporated. The residue was dissolved in dichloromethane and washed with water. The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4 and evaporated[1].
