Chemical Properties
Dark navy blue powder. Easily soluble in water, aqueous solution is purple, add sodium hydroxide solution is light dark purple. Soluble in ethanol, violet blue. Reddish yellow in concentrated sulfuric acid, light green when diluted. In concentrated nitric acid, it is bluish fruity green.
Uses
Acid violet 17 is an anionic dye used in adsorption studies and to dye proteins in electrophoresis applications. Dyes and metabolites, Environmental Testing
Preparation
3-(Ethyl(phenyl)amino)methyl)benzenesulfonic acid condensation, and then (a) oxidation as dimer water molecules (hydrol), again with N,N-diethylbenzenamine condensation, oxidation, and translated into sodium salt; Or (b) in N,N-diethylbenzenaminepresence, with heavy chromate acid direct oxidation.
