Chemical Properties
Pale-yellow, low viscosity, oily liquid. Mild odor, Soluble in most organic liquids; insoluble in water. Combustible.
Uses
Methyl Acetylricinoleate is a plasticizer; used in method for preparing agricultural mulching film using PVA/bio-based composite material.
Uses
Plasticizer, lubricant, protective coatings, synthetic rubbers, vinyl compounds.
Synthesis
Castor oil mixed fatty acids and acetone added to the reactor, stirring to dissolve and cooled to -29 ~ -15 C, filtration to remove the saturated acid, and then repeated recrystallization at -70 C to obtain ricinic acid. Ricinic acid and methanol esterification, and then acetylation with acetic anhydride to obtain the product.
