Chemical Properties
White crystals; odorless; sweet taste. Soluble in water; insoluble in absolute alcohol and ether. Stable to heat, strong acid, and alkali. Amounts are expressed in milligrams of inositol.
Uses
Cyclohexane-1,2,3,4,5,6-hexol is used in emollients for its ability to hold and retain moisture, it belongs to the vitamin B family. Although found naturally in plant and animal tissue, for commercial use it is isolated from corn.

Inositol is an essentially non toxic compound largely formed by the dephosphorylation of inositol hexaphosphate (IP6, Phytate) with in the gastrointestinal tract in humans and animals.
