Primisulfuron-methyl is a fungicide used in pesticides for weed control.
Production Methods
The commercial production of primisulfuron-methyl involves a multi-step synthesis starting with methyl 2-chlorosulfonylbenzoate and 2-amino-4,6-bis(difluoromethoxy)pyrimidine. The process typically follows a Schotten–Baumann-type reaction, where the sulfonyl chloride reacts with the pyrimidine derivative to form a sulfonamide intermediate. This is then further reacted with isocyanate or carbamoyl chloride derivatives to introduce the sulfonylurea linkage, forming the final herbicidal compound. The synthesis is carried out under controlled conditions to ensure high purity and yield, followed by purification steps such as crystallisation.
