3-(4-Chloro-2,6-dimethylphenyl)-8-methoxy-1-methyl-2-oxo-1,8-diazaspiro[4.5]dec-3-en-4-yl Ethyl Carbonate can be useful in national probabilistic risk assessment of newly registered pesticides in agricultural products to propose maximum residue limit (MRL).
Production Methods
Spiropidion is assembled through a multi-fragment construction route characteristic of recent, structurally intricate insecticides. Commercial manufacture begins with preparation of the spirocyclic core, built via controlled cyclisation steps that generate the distinctive spiro-pyrrolidine framework. In parallel, producers construct the fluorinated heteroaromatic side chain, using established halogenation and amide-forming chemistry. These pre-built units are then joined through an activated acyl-coupling step, after which the crude product is purified, solvent stripped, and crystallised to yield technical grade spiropidion.

ChEBI: Spiropidion is an azaspiro compound that is 1-methoxypiperidine which is fused at position 4 to the 5-position of a 1,5-dihydro-2H-pyrrol-2-one that is substituted at positions 1, 3 and 4 by methyl, 4-chloro-2,6-dimethylphenyl and (ethoxycarbonyl)oxy groups, respectively. It is a proinsecticide developed by Syngenta and used to protect a wide range of crops from some of the most damaging, difficult to control sucking pests such as aphids, whiteflies, Pysllids, armoured scales, soft scales, spider mites, rust mites, and red mites including California red scale, green peach aphid (Myzus persicae), tobacco whitefly etc. It has a role as an EC 6.4.1.2 (acetyl-CoA carboxylase) inhibitor, a proinsecticide and an agrochemical. It is a member of tetramic acids, a member of monochlorobenzenes, an azaspiro compound and a carbonate ester.
Mechanism of action
Active primarily through ingestion having very little contact activity. Acetyl CoA carboxylase inhibitor (ACCase) - distrupts fatty acid biosynthesis and lipid formation.
