5-Chloro-3-methyl-4-nitro-1H-pyrazole (CMNP) is a pyrazole-derived plant growth regulator used as a citrus abscission agent.
Production Methods
The commercial production of pyrazachlor involves the synthesis of a pyrazole ring substituted with a chlorine atom, a methyl group, and a nitro group. The process typically starts with the formation of the pyrazole core through condensation of hydrazines with beta-dicarbonyl compounds, followed by selective nitration and chlorination steps to introduce the functional groups at the desired positions.
Mechanism of action
Acts as an uncoupler of energetic membranes, depletes total ATP content, increases phospholipase A2 (PLA2), lipoxygenase activities and production of downstream lipid signalling compounds.
