Uses
Anti-TARDBP (AB1) polyclonal antibody is used to tag TAR DNA binding protein for detection and quantitation by Western blotting and in plasma by immunohistochemical (IHC) techniques. It is used as a probe to determine the roles of TAR DNA binding protein in the repression of gene expression and regulation of pre-mRNA splicing and translation.
Biological Activity
HIV-1, the causative agent of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), contains an RNA genome th at produces a chromosomally integrated DNA during the replicative cycle. Activation of HIV-1 gene expression by the transactivator T at is dependent on an RNA regulatory element (TAR) located downstream of the transcription initiation site. In addition, this protein regulates alternate splicing of the CFTR gene. A similar pseudogene is present on chromosome 20.
