Uses
20β-Dihydrocortisol could be used as a potential non invasive diagnostic test of transmissible spongiform encephalopaties. 20β-Dihydrocortisol is a metabolite of Cortisol (H714615), a steroid hormone, more specifically a glucocorticoid, produced by the zona fasciculata of the adrenal gland. Cortisol is released in response to stress and a low level of blood glucocorticoids. Its primary functions are to increase blood sugar through gluconeogenesis; suppress the immune system; and aid in fat, protein and carbohydrate metabolism.

ChEBI: 20beta-dihydrocortisol is a 17alpha-hydroxy-C21-steroid that is cortisol in which the 20-oxo group has been reduced to a hydroxy group. It is a metabolite of cortisol identified in the urine of horses and humans, and its urinary excretion is increased in obesity. It has a role as a human urinary metabolite and a mammalian metabolite. It is a 21-hydroxy steroid, a 3-oxo-Delta(4) steroid, a 20-hydroxy steroid, an 11beta-hydroxy steroid and a 17alpha-hydroxy-C21-steroid. It is functionally related to a cortisol.
