TERPINEOL Chemical Properties, Uses, Production
Chemical Properties
Colorless thick liquid with the fragrance of lilac flowers. Freezing point 37℃, boiling point 219℃. Soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, acetone, chloroform, ether and benzene, insoluble in water. Human oral LD503-4g/kg, rat oral LD504.3g/kg, ADI1mg/kg(CE).
Uses
Terpineol is a permitted food flavoring agent according to GB 2760-1996 standard. It is mainly used to formulate flavorings for citrus fruits such as lemon and lemonade, as well as sweet orange, strawberry, peach, cherry, and raspberry. The dosage, based on normal production needs, is generally 40 mg/kg in chewing gum, 38 mg/kg in seasonings, 19 mg/kg in baked goods, 16 mg/kg in frozen drinks, 14 mg/kg in candy, 12-16 mg/kg in puddings, and 5.4 mg/kg in soft drinks.

Safety Profile
Mildly toxic by ingestion. A skin irritant. Combustible liquid. When heated to decomposition it emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes. See also a-TERPINEOL.
