Synthesis

There are several methods for synthesizing (R)-4-bromo-alpha-methylbenzyl alcohol. Depending on the starting material, it can be prepared by potassium borohydride-catalyzed ketone reduction, benzyl alcohol preparation by benzyl ring bromination, and benzyl bromohydrolysis. This article uses alpha-methylbenzyl alcohol as the starting material and prepares the target compound (R)-4-bromo-alpha-methylbenzyl alcohol via N-bromosuccinimide bromination. The synthetic reaction formula of (R)-4-bromo-alpha-methylbenzyl alcohol is shown in the figure below:
