Linalyl formate has a fruity, floral (rose) odor reminiscent of bergamot and vervain. It has a bittersweet flavor with pineapple like undernote. May be synthesized via the esterification of linalool with formic acid.

Linalyl Formate is a liquid with a fruity odor, reminiscent of bergamot. Linalyl formate is moderately stable and is used in lavender fragrances and eau de cologne.
Occurrence
Reported found in nature: Lavandula; Prumus armeniaca, Prumus persica, and Salvia sclarea, peach, oil of lime, petitgrain and sour cherry.
Uses
LINALYL FORMATE is mainly used to formulate flavorings such as apricot, peach, pineapple, and apple. When used in appropriate amounts with linalyl acetate, it has a brightening and sweetening effect. When used in citrus, it can enhance the aroma of bergamot and lemon. It is also suitable for formulas of orchid, frangipani, cologne, and certain floral, aldehyde, and fruity fragrances. It can also be used in edible flavorings such as pineapple, apricot, peach, apple, and various berry flavorings.
Preparation
By esterification of linalool with formic acid.
