Uses
C22 Galactosylceramide is a sphingolipid present in the central nervous system, exhibiting elevated levels in the spinal cord of mice on a methionine-restricted diet, while not affecting the brain or liver; furthermore, it has been identified in the postmortem hippocampus of Alzheimer's disease patients.
Definition
ChEBI: 1-(beta-D-galactosyl)-N-behenoylsphingosine is a D-galactosyl-N-acylsphingosine where the ceramide N-acyl group is docosananoyl and the D-galactosyl component has beta anomeric configuration. It has a role as a mouse metabolite. It is functionally related to a docosanoic acid.
Biological Activity
C22 Galactosylceramide is a sphingolipid that has been found in the central nervous system.1,2 C22 Galactosylceramide levels are increased in the spinal cord, but not the brain or liver, of mice fed a methionine-restricted diet.1 C22 Galactosylceramide has been found in postmortem hippocampus from patients with Alzheimer's disease.2 [Matreya, LLC.]
