Chemical Properties
White amorphous powder, insoluble in water, insoluble in acid and lye, eutectic with alkali to obtain metastannate, and loses water significantly when heated.
Application
Metastannic acid is mainly used as a flame retardant for chemical fibers and textiles, plastic products, paint coatings and epoxy resin sealing materials; colorants for ceramic products; additives for printing inks; mordant in the textile industry.
Synthesis
Metastannic acid can be obtained by reacting refined tin with concentrated nitric acid, separating by filtration and drying.
