| | 1,5-DIBROMO-PENTAN-3-ONE Usage And Synthesis |
| Synthesis | Synthesis of 1,5-Dibromopentan-3-one. (51-3) N-Bromosuccinimide (1.70 mol) was added to a solution of carbon tetrachloride (2.50 L) in 1-(2-bromoethyl)cyclopropanol (1.70 mol) and the reaction mixture was heated to reflux for 14 hours. After completion of the reaction, the mixture was cooled to room temperature and filtered to remove insoluble solids. The filtrate was washed sequentially with water (500 mL) and brine (500 mL), dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated to give 1,5-dibromopentan-3-one in 77% yield as a brown liquid. | | References | [1] Chemical Communications, 2014, vol. 50, # 52, p. 6860 - 6862 [2] Patent: WO2010/24980, 2010, A1.
