METHAZOLE Usage And Synthesis
UsesHerbicide.
UsesMethazole is an herbicide used on fungus in the protection of crops.Environmental toxin on US EPA Toxic Release Inventory list (TRI) list.
DefinitionChEBI: Methazole is a dichlorobenzene.
Production MethodsThe industrial synthesis of methazole typically begins with the construction of a 1,3,4-oxadiazole ring, a five-membered heterocycle containing nitrogen and oxygen atoms. This ring is formed via cyclisation reactions involving hydrazides and carboxylic acid derivatives under dehydrating conditions. Once the oxadiazole core is established, it is coupled with a chlorinated phenyl group, often through nucleophilic aromatic substitution or Friedel–Crafts-type reactions, to yield the herbicidal structure. The synthesis is carried out in organic solvents like acetonitrile or dichloromethane, with temperature and pH carefully controlled to ensure high yield and purity.
General DescriptionColorless crystals to light tan solid. Non corrosive. Herbicide.
Air & Water ReactionsHydrolyzed by strong acids and bases.
Reactivity ProfileMEETHAZOLE is an oxadiazole.
Mechanism of actionSelective. Methazole demonstrates selective phytotoxic activity through inhibition of photosynthetic electron transport which induces stunting and chlorosis
Safety ProfileModerately toxic by ingestion. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumesof Cl-and NOx.
Pesticide TypeHerbicide
