Propamocarb hydrochloride Usage And Synthesis
UsesAgricultural fungicide.
Production MethodsProduction involves a controlled chemical reaction between N,N-dimethyl-1,3-propanediamine and propyl chloroformate in an aqueous medium. Initially, the diamine, water, and an anti-hydrolysis agent are added to a reaction kettle. Propyl chloroformate is then introduced dropwise while maintaining the temperature between 23–28 DegC over 7–8 hours. After the addition, the mixture undergoes a thermal insulation reaction for 2 hours, followed by vacuum dehydration under reduced pressure at temperatures not exceeding 110 DegC. The final product is discharged after dehydration, with water recovered for reuse.
Agricultural Uses: Fungicide: Propamocarb hydrochloride is used for the plant disease called damping-off and has fungicidal activity against Pythium spp. and Phytophthora spp. It is used on non-food sites such as ornamental lawns and turf, sod farms, plants, vines and woody plants. Registered for use in EU countries. Registered for use in the U.S.
