| Chemical Properties | Colorless liquid | | Uses | 1-Bromo-2-isopropoxybenzene is used as an intermediate in organic syntheses. | | Synthesis | General procedure for the synthesis of 1-bromo-2-isopropoxybenzene from 2-bromophenol and 2-bromopropane: A mixture of 2-bromophenol (1.156 mmol), anhydrous K2CO3 (1.20 eq., 192 mg), sodium iodide (4 mg), and anhydrous ethanol (3 mL) was magnetically stirred at room temperature under argon protection. 2-Bromopropane (1.20 eq.) was added slowly and the mixture was then refluxed for 5 hours. After the reaction was complete, it was cooled to room temperature and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. Ethyl acetate (50 mL) was added to dissolve the residue and the organic phase was washed sequentially with 1M NaOH and brine (15 mL each). The organic phase was dried with anhydrous Na2SO4 and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure to obtain the crude product.
