ApplicationCOPPER(II) BENZOYLACETONATE can be used as a pharmaceutical intermediate and an organic synthesis intermediate, and can be used in the preparation of optical materials and in laboratory research and development processes.

SynthesisCopper benzoylacetone was prepared as follows: 100 cc of hexane was prepared as a solvent, 150 g of copper (I) chloride was added to this solvent and the mixture was stirred well to obtain a homogeneous suspension. To this suspension, 70g of benzoyl phenyl ketone was added at room temperature while slowly adding a small amount and all of it within 1 hour. The suspension was heated to reflux at 70C and the reaction solution was filtered. The solvent was removed from the filtrate obtained by depressurization at 20 Torr for 1 hour. The remaining residue was recrystallized with 100 cc of hexane to give crystals of bis(benzoylacetonyl)copper.
