(-)-alpha-bisabolol Usage And Synthesis
Synthesis(a) Chemical Synthesis: Racemic bisabolol is prepared by chemical synthesis using farnesol (farnesol) or nerol as starting materials. The synthesized product obtained from this process is a racemic product with a content of 85%, containing two isomers: 42.5% levorotatory (-)α-bisabolol and 42.5% dextrorotatory (+)α-bisabolol. This mixture contains only 42.5% of the active levorotatory isomer.

(II) Plant Extraction Method: Using raw materials such as chamomile and Candeia brasiliensis, natural α-bisabolol is fractionated from essential oils: the fractionation process separates components from a liquid mixture based on their boiling points, and a single configuration of bisabolol is prepared through extractive distillation.

DescriptionBisabolol, or more formally (-)-alpha-bisabolol, also known as levomenol, is a natural monocyclic sesquiterpene alcohol. Alpha-bisabolol, an unsaturated monocyclic sesquiterpene alcohol, is known as one of the “most-used herbal constituents” worldwide. Various therapeutic and biological properties of α-bisabolol in preventing oxidative stress, inflammatory disorders, infections, neurodegenerative diseases, cancers, and metabolic disorders have been reported. It is a common additive in many PCPs, including dental care products, skin moisturisers, sunscreens, and make-up products, due to its multiple biological activities.
Uses(-)-α-Bisabolol was used to investigate the leishmanicidal and cytotoxic activity of essential oil of Vanillosmopsis arborea.
