| Chemical Properties | White Solid | | Uses | Narasin (4-methylsalinomycin) is a polyether antibiotic isolated from Streptomyces aureofaciens in 1978. Although narasin is a close analogue of salinomycin, the metabolites are produced by different species and are not co-metabolites. Narasin shows broad spectrum activity against Gram positive bacteria including anaerobes and mycoplasma, and also possesses antiviral and limited antifungal activity. Narasin is used in the animal health industry as an in-feed antibiotic and growth promotant. | | Uses | Narasin is the main component of a polyether antibiotic complex produced by Streptomyces auriofaciens NRRL 5758 & NRRL 8092. Narasin inhibits coccidial infection in poultry and mammals and is used in studies involving sodium calcium ion exchange.
In addition, Narasin inhibits Dengue virus (DENV) at the post-entry stage of viral replication during DENV infection. The inhibition of DENV involves a non-cytotoxic mechanism, therefore, Narasin can be possibly considered as therapeutic agent against DENV infection. A dose dependent curve (0.01-5 μM) showed th at Narasin has 50% inhibitory concentration at less than 1 μM against all four serotypes of DENV. The IC50 (μM) of Narasin against four different DENV serotypes was 0.05-0.65 μM. |
