| Uses | (2-Fluoro-4-nitrophenyl)acetic acid | | Synthesis | Step 2: Diethyl 2-(2-fluoro-4-nitrophenyl)malonate (12) (12.0 g) was dissolved in a mixed solvent of acetic acid (80 mL) and water (30 mL) and concentrated sulfuric acid (20 mL) was added slowly. The reaction mixture was heated to 100 °C and the reaction was stirred overnight. Upon completion of the reaction, the solvent was removed by distillation under reduced pressure. Water (100 mL) was added to the residue and the aqueous phase was extracted with ethyl acetate (200 mL x 2). The organic layers were combined, dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give 2-(2-fluoro-4-nitrophenyl)acetic acid (7.0 g), the product was a light yellow oil. | | References | [1] Patent: US2003/225107, 2003, A1.
