| Preparation | CERIC SULFATE is obtained by heating cerium oxide, cerium nitrate, cerium oxalate and the like with concentrated sulphuric acid, followed by the removal of excess acid; alternatively, the anhydrous compound can be obtained by heating hydrated cerium sulphate at 350–400 °C. | | Application | 1. Used as a color developer for aniline black and in the production of colored glass. 2. Its pentahydrate, octahydrate, and nonahydrate are used as polishing materials for optical glass. 3. Can be used as a catalyst in the synthesis of compounds such as amyl butyrate and butyl acetate, both of which can be used as food flavorings and solvents. 4. Can be added to aluminum alloys to improve the corrosion resistance of the oxide film. 5. Can be used as an additive to control membrane fouling in membrane bioreactors.
