| Production Methods | Benazolin lithium is produced by first synthesising technical benazolin, created through acylation and cyclisation steps that generate the benzoxazinone herbicide core. The free-acid form is then converted into the lithium salt to enhance water solubility and allow stable formulations to be created. This is achieved by dissolving or suspending benazolin in water or a mixed solvent and treating it with a lithium base, typically lithium hydroxide, under controlled pH, forming the lithium carboxylate. | | General Description | Crystalline solid. Used as an herbicide to replace 2,4,5,-T in certain applications. | | Mechanism of action | Absorbed mainly via root system, non-selective. Inhibits photosynthesis (photosystem II). | | Pesticide Type | Herbicide |
