| | Samarium trifluoride Usage And Synthesis |
| Uses | Samarium Fluoride has specialized uses in glass, phosphors, lasers, and thermoelectric devices. Samarium-doped Calcium Fluoride crystals were used as an active medium in one of the first solid-state lasers designed and constructed. These magnets are found in small motors, headphones, and high-end magnetic pickups for guitars and related musical instruments.
| | Chemical Properties | Samarium (III) fluoride is a yellow solid or odourless powder and slightly hygroscopic. It is insoluble in water. Workers should avoid open flame, moisture, and strong acids. | | Uses | Samarium(III) fluoride is used as laboratory reagent, in optical glasses, structural ceramics, catalysts, electrical components and photo-optical material. It has specialized uses in phosphors, lasers, and thermoelectric devices. | | Synthesis | In FK3000 enamel reaction tank, add 1000L of samarium chloride solution with the concentration of 0.23mol/L, the samarium chloride solution is heated to 93, add 300L of ammonium bicarbonate solution with the concentration of 2.5mol/L, the precipitation reaction is completed in 3 hours, the heat preservation aging is completed in 1 hour, washing, filtration, and then get the samarium carbonate and samarium carbonate alkaline precipitate, in which the weight ratio of samarium carbonate to samarium carbonate alkaline is 4:1; in 1000L fluoride transformation tank, add 130L of water, and then make the precipitation into slurry with paddle under stirring condition. Add 130L water in 1000L fluoride transformation tank, modulate samarium carbonate and samarium carbonate precipitate into slurry, add 40% hydrofluoric acid 40kg fluoride into the slurry under stirring, fluoride temperature at 20, control the endpoint acidity pH value of 1.5~2.0, and then continue to stir for 1 hour, then wash, filter, and centrifugal drying of samarium fluoride precipitate, and then dry in drying kiln at 200. The samarium fluoride precipitation was washed, filtered, centrifuged and dried in the drying kiln at 200 for 12 hours, and the center particle size of samarium fluoride product was 30.06μm.
