| Biological Activity | Extracellular matrix protein 1 (ECM1) has a role in cell proliferation, mineralization and angiogenesis. The protein has been shown to have a role in cancer invasion and progression. It is associated with hepatocellular carcinoma. Mutations in the ECM1 gene have been linked to lipoid proteinosis. The protein also promotes the Warburg effect, which is an oncogenic switch th at allows cancerous cells to take in more glucose than non-cancerous cells. |
