DYSPROSIUM(III) CHLORIDE HEXAHYDRATE Usage And Synthesis
SynthesisDysprosium trioxide is a white or pale yellow powder; the powder used in the experiment is white. It is insoluble in water, has a melting point of 2340±10℃, and is almost insoluble in molten salt systems, thus remaining essentially solid. An isothermal saturated equilibrium method was employed, and the molten salt system was subjected to a closed argon atmosphere. Under an argon atmosphere, chlorination was performed with carbon tetrachloride, and dysprosium oxide reacted with carbon tetrachloride at 700℃. The reaction formula for the preparation of DYSPROSIUM(III) CHLORIDE HEXAHYDRATE is shown in the figure below:

Synthesis of 15059-52-6

The traditional method for preparing DYSPROSIUM(III) CHLORIDE HEXAHYDRATE is the calcium thermal reduction of dysprosium fluoride. The purity of metallic dysprosium is generally below 99.9%, with carbon, oxygen, and fluorine content reaching 15*10-4. Furthermore, this method consumes a large amount of energy and results in significant crucible material loss, making it difficult to obtain high-purity dysprosium of higher quality. This study uses the carbon tetrachloride chlorination method to prepare DYSPROSIUM(III) CHLORIDE HEXAHYDRATE, which consumes less energy; and because the reaction is carried out at low temperature, crucible material loss is minimal.
