| Synthesis | General procedure for the synthesis of 1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridin-3(2H)-one from ethyl 2-chloropyridine-3-carboxylate: a mixed solution of 5 g (26.94 mmol) of ethyl 2-chloropyridine-3-carboxylate and 4.76 g (80.82 mmol) of 85% hydrazine hydrate in 10 ml of ethanol was heated and refluxed for 6 hours. After completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was concentrated.
