Example 1.1.61: Synthesis of (3-methoxy-5-nitrophenyl)methanamine; To a 5 ml THF solution of 1-(azidomethyl)-3-methoxy-5-nitrobenzene (synthesized as described herein) in stirring was added PPh3 (0.0707 g, 0.27 mmol, 1.1 eq.). after 5 min, 1 ml of water was added and the reaction mixture was stirred overnight. Subsequently, the solvent was removed by distillation under reduced pressure. The residue was dissolved in EtOAc and extracted once with 1N HCl solution. The aqueous phase was adjusted to pH>8 with 1N NaOH and then extracted once more with EtOAc. The combined organic phases were washed once with saturated saline and dried with anhydrous Na2SO4. After filtration to remove the desiccant, the solvent was removed by distillation under reduced pressure to give 0.030 g (0.16 mmol, 67% yield) of the target product (3-methoxy-5-nitrophenyl)methylamine.
