Cobalt(II) fluoride tetrahydrate Usage And Synthesis
Chemical PropertiesRose red crystal
UsesCobalt(II) fluoride tetrahydrate is used as a starting material to synthesize 2-dimensional cobalt-fluoride-oxide as an oxygen evolution electrocatalysts using a rapid thermal annealing (RTA) method. In this process, the cobalt(II) fluoride tetrahydrate is placed in an alumina furnace at 400°C. After annealing for 20 minutes in air, the alumina crucible is removed and allowed to cool naturally to room temperature. The resulting products are then rinsed multiple times in deionized water and ethanol to remove any soluble impurities. Finally, the product is dried thoroughly in a vacuum oven at 60°C to obtain the 2D nanosheets sample. Furthermore, when combined with N-Heterocyclic Carbenes, Cobalt(II) fluoride tetrahydrate has been found to be highly effective as a catalyst for cross-coupling reactions between aryl Grignard reagents and aryl as well as heteroaryl halides. This reaction results in the formation of unsymmetrical biaryls.
Synthesis

Weigh 22.5gCoCl3·6H2O dissolved in 60ml distilled water, heated to 40 ~ 50 , stirring dropwise addition of 30gNa2CO3·10H2O dissolved in 25ml distilled water hot solution, immediately reacted to get the rose-red CoCO3. aging 2h after filtration, washed with distilled water to the absence of chlorine ions, the CoCO3. CoCO3 was transferred to a polyethylene beaker and hydrofluoric acid was added dropwise until the solid CoCO3 disappeared and a rose-red solution was obtained. Evaporate to nearly dry, cool to get red crystals, filter, wash with a small amount of distilled water, dry at 80 in moving air, placed in a P2O5 desiccator for spare. The product EDTA volumetric method to analyze the cobalt content, lead chloride precipitation volumetric method to analyze the fluorine content; the result is Co: 34175% (calculated value 34188%); F: 22140% (calculated value 22149%), deduced that the product of the experimental formula for: CoF2·4H2O.
