DINOTERB ACETATE Usage And Synthesis
Production MethodsDinoterb acetate was produced through a short, largely classical sequence that mirrored other phenolic herbicides of its era. Manufacturers first generated technical dinoterb by nitrating 2-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol under controlled mixed-acid conditions to introduce the 2,4-dinitro substitution pattern, followed by purification to remove acidic residues and stabilise the nitrophenolic product. The acetate derivative was then formed not by further nitration or oxidation but by simple esterification of the phenolic hydroxyl group with acetic anhydride or acetyl chloride in a controlled, typically solvent-based system.
Mechanism of actionSelective, non-systemic with contact action. Uncoupler of oxidative phosphorylation via disruption of proton gradient - membrane distruption.
Pesticide TypeHerbicide
