| Production Methods | Dinoseb diolamine was manufactured through the same foundational sequence used for other dinoseb salts, with the distinguishing step being neutralisation by a secondary amine rather than ammonia or alkali. Producers first generated technical grade dinoseb by mixed acid nitration of 2 tert butylphenol, followed by removal of tarry by-products and residual acids to stabilise the nitrophenolic intermediate. The purified dinoseb was then reacted with diethanolamine in a controlled, typically aqueous or hydroalcoholic medium. This step formed the diolamine salt through simple acid-base neutralisation, with process conditions tuned to prevent oxidative darkening and to keep the viscous amine manageable. The resulting dinoseb diolamine was subsequently formulated. | | Mechanism of action | Inhibits respiratory electron transport, and uncouples oxidative phosphorylation - membrane disruption. Selective, non-systemic. Contact action. | | Pesticide Type | Herbicide |
