白细胞介素-2（IL-2）是一种白细胞介素，一种细胞因子免疫系统信号分子，是一种白细胞营养激素，有助于身体对微生物感染的自然反应，并区分外来（非自我）和自我。IL-2通过与负责免疫的淋巴细胞表达的IL-2受体结合来介导其作用。成熟的人IL-2分别与小鼠和大鼠IL-2具有56%和66%的氨基酸序列同一性。人和小鼠IL-2表现出跨物种活性。IL-2受体由三个亚基组成，这些亚基以不同的预先形成的复合物存在于细胞表面。在胸腺T细胞发育过程中，IL-2对于称为调节性T细胞（T-regs）的独特T细胞亚群的成熟也是必需的。T-Regs通过阻止反应细胞产生IL-2来实现。因此，IL-2需要区分自我和非自我，这是免疫系统的另一个独特特征。
