The RETN antibody targets resistin, a hormone encoded by the *RETN* gene, primarily associated with metabolic regulation and inflammation. Resistin, initially identified in rodents as an adipokine secreted by adipose tissue, was linked to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. However, its role in humans differs; human resistin is predominantly produced by immune cells (e.g., macrophages) and epithelial cells, influencing pro-inflammatory pathways and contributing to conditions like atherosclerosis, obesity, and autoimmune diseases. Structurally, resistin is a cysteine-rich protein forming multimers, with roles in modulating glucose metabolism, immune responses, and cellular signaling via receptors such as Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and adenylyl cyclase-associated protein 1 (CAP1).

RETN antibodies are critical tools for detecting resistin in research and diagnostics. They enable quantification of resistin levels in serum or tissues using techniques like ELISA, Western blot, or immunohistochemistry, aiding studies on its pathophysiological roles. Commercial RETN antibodies are often validated for specificity across species (human, mouse, rat) and applications. Despite progress, debates persist about resistin's mechanistic contributions to metabolic syndromes, underscoring the need for reliable antibodies to clarify its dual role as a metabolic and inflammatory mediator. These reagents remain pivotal in exploring resistin as a therapeutic target or biomarker for metabolic and inflammatory diseases.
