The proteasome subunit beta type-7 (PSMB7), a key component of the 20S core particle within the 26S proteasome, plays a critical role in the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) responsible for regulated intracellular protein degradation. As one of the β catalytic subunits, PSMB7 contributes to the chymotrypsin-like activity of the proteasome, cleaving peptide bonds after hydrophobic residues. Its expression is tightly regulated and essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis, particularly in processes like cell cycle progression, stress response, and antigen presentation.

PSMB7-specific antibodies are vital tools for studying proteasome composition, dynamics, and dysfunction in diseases. Researchers utilize these antibodies in techniques such as Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunoprecipitation to investigate proteasome assembly, subunit localization, and expression changes under pathological conditions. Altered PSMB7 levels have been associated with cancer progression, neurodegenerative disorders (e.g., Alzheimer's disease), and autoimmune diseases, making its detection clinically relevant.

Commercially available PSMB7 antibodies are typically raised against conserved epitopes in human or murine sequences, with both monoclonal and polyclonal variants validated for specificity through knockout controls. Recent studies also explore PSMB7 as a potential therapeutic target, particularly in hematological malignancies where proteasome inhibitors like bortezomib show efficacy. However, isoform-specific antibody development remains challenging due to high homology among proteasome subunits.
