The PTGES2 (Prostaglandin E Synthase 2) antibody is a tool used to detect and study the PTGES2 protein, a membrane-associated enzyme involved in prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) synthesis. PTGES2 catalyzes the conversion of prostaglandin H2 (PGH2) to PGE2. a lipid mediator critical in inflammation, pain, fever, and cellular homeostasis. Unlike other prostaglandin synthases, PTGES2 is constitutively expressed and may function independently of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), suggesting roles in both physiological and pathological processes. Research highlights its potential involvement in cancer progression, neurodegenerative diseases, and cardiovascular conditions.

The antibody is primarily used in techniques like Western blotting (WB), immunohistochemistry (IHC), and immunofluorescence (IF) to analyze PTGES2 expression, localization, and regulation across tissues. Validated antibodies help clarify PTGES2’s tissue-specific expression patterns, interactions with other signaling molecules, and its role in diseases. For instance, elevated PTGES2 levels in certain tumors correlate with poor prognosis, implicating it in tumor growth or metastasis. Studies also explore its neuroprotective or detrimental effects in Alzheimer’s disease.
